Don,  I don&#039;t mind being wrong when I am wrong but in this case you are wrong.  The jagged white mark on the neck, the dark culmen, and the large bill (as seen clearly in other images of the same bird after swallowing the crab), are all consistent with Common Loon not red-throated.     You were tricked by the open bill and the fore-shortened view. artie]]></description>
