Hey Joe,  Thanks for chiming in.   I disagree on both.  The head angle for the spoonbill-with the bird relatively distant which gave me some extra d-o-f, is perfect for me, about three degrees towards us.  I did lighten the face a bit; it looks fine to me as presented.   The situation with the egret was different in that I was much closer to the subject.  Had the bird turned its head three degrees toward me the bill tip would have been well out of focus.  With that image, I see the bird&#039;s head perfectly square to the imaging sensor, perfect for that situation.  I see both the eye and the bill tip in sharp focus.
