PA,  I am confused by what you write.   I reduce the opacity of the two filters to 50% while leaving the defaults intact.  I usually reduce the opacity of that layer by half but I often fine tune the effect with either a Regular or and Inverse (Hide-all or Black) Layer Mask.

I do have Digital Basics (Oct 2012) :) You indeed mention that you adjust the opacity, but I was not 100% sure whether your &quot;50-50&quot; meant this specific value. 

Although I should have considered that applying values in the 50s range for these Nik filters would give quite scary results...]]></description>
