Thanks Adam,

I was not talking about the short term stuff like nausea, I was referring to the serious side effects like instant death, anesthesia's effect on the human brain and memory, and lots more. My good friend Dr. Cliff Oliver quotes the highly respected P.Hd. Valerie Hunt by saying that general anesthesia is the second most stressful event that your body will every experience, second to actually dying. She explains that that is because anesthesia works by making your body think that you are dying :)

Not good stuff.

with love, artie

ps: are you in the medical field?

Hi Artie, I agree that one should stay out of the operating room whenever feasible but I wanted to correct a misnomer that the anesthetics are fundamentally responsible for the malaise that you feel after surgery. While many of the anesthetics work similar to alcohol and other commonly used drugs and they can therefore cause hangover like symptoms or impairment, the awful flu like feelings and prolonged impairment is due to the body's intrinsic response to surgery. This process consists primarily of a systemic inflammatory response invoking metabolic, immunologic, and hormonal changes. Cheers and thanks for the podcast.
