I suspect that this is a B&#038;H employee misreading the information about the lens. The fact that the collar is removable is not mentioned anywhere else. What is mentioned is that, just like version II lenses, the tripod foot is removable so that you can put a smaller foot on it to better suit use on a monopod. Time willl tell I guess, but I’d put money on that being the case.
