Hey Rick, For general bird photography, the 2-6 is far superior. Greater reach (600 versus 560 while being faster (f/6.3 versus f/8).

The 1-4 offers closer focus and lighter weight.  If you get a 2-6 please use my B&amp;H link or get in touch with Steve Elkins at Bedfords.
