In most situations, until Zebras just appear.  Using the exposure compensation dial is terribly slow and cumbersome.  You need to be in an Automatic mode (which is a big negative).  Even if you are using AUTO ISO, the camera is slow to respond. In addition, knowledge as to how much + or - is required is needed and lastly, your method will not work as the background changes ... 

If you want to learn how to use your camera properly and get the right exposure everytime quickly and easily I&#039;d suggest that you get the guide.
