I found the Wikipedia article. What I am seeing is color noise, just as we saw with dSLRs from 15 years ago. See also my reply to Adam here.

Thanks, Adam. My approach is to keep things simple. I have shot lots of vultures on cloudy days with the a9 ii and the 7r iv, but have never seen such clearly evident color noise as with the R5. And I will shoot more out of necessity soon as I have to return the Canon loaner gear on Monday.
