I was using crop mode extensively at DeSoto this past weekend and had to toggle it off on a number of occasions when bathing shorebirds were about to alight.

As noted here recently, there are some very good reasons to go to crop mode with the a-1 series bodies, most notably better eye AF tracking with small in the frame subjects.
