Thanks, David. Your comment reminded me that about a year after Elaine died I was at Blind Pass where Sanibel Island and Captiva meet. I was helping a fisherman who hooked a young Brown Pelican in the neck. He said, I’ll put the hook out.” I said, “No. It is in too deep. Cut the line and I will bring it to C.R.O.W., the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife. Halfway to the parking lot it died in my arms. I cried a lot.
