As suggested by several folks, I will eliminate the board. I also liked Image #3 because of the tension that resulted from the look back posture. I also had some love for the blur. As did Tom Redd 🙂

In the Blog Post Before That

In the Turkey Vulture Flight Sky Colors post here, my rankings were #3, 1, and #2. I thought that the sunny morning blue sky image was the strongest by a mile (though I did make a lighter sky version for Chris Loffredo) 🙂 I hated #2 because of the phony blue sky. Had I gone white sky with #2, that would have been my second choice.

Summary

While Adobe Camera Raw masks enable you to select dreary skies and add some blue to them, I do not, in general, like the results. There are two main reasons:

1- Since I was there on a cloudy or drizzly day, there is a disconnect — my brain is not willing to accept a blue sky as natural.

2- You make a mask of the subject and render it perfectly color balanced, aka, neutral. But then when you blue up the sky, the subject appears to have a blue color cast. To see for yourself, scroll down and compare Image #1 with Image #1A and Image #2 with Image #2A.

I know that most folks in the original Turkey Vulture Flight Sky Colors post liked the phony blue sky best as compared to the white sky image, but for the most part, the artificial light blue skies are a big turn-off for me personally.

The very knowledgeable David Pugsley wrote in part: I believe I’d put 2 first, but the overall presentation looks a bit too cool…at least on my device. So, even though the bird in Image 2 was perfectly neutral, he was seeing the imaginary blue color cast that I mentioned above.

Note: I love photographing in overcast conditions because of the complete absence of shadows. And when doing flight photography on what I call white sky days, getting wonderful underwing detail does not present a problem. On sunny days, you need to be perfectly on sun angle to avoid underwing shadows and even then, you will likely have to deal with some problematic dark areas.

ngg_shortcode_0_placeholder

Fresh caught Alaskan seafood caught sustainably. Now that Junior’s Fish Market in Lake Wales is closing and Mike is moving up north, I will be depending on Wild Alaska every month. I always order Sockeye filets and the Sea Scallops. The stuff comes frozen solid, is easy to prepare, and tastes pretty much as good as the fresh stuff would.

You can save $20 on your first order by clicking here. Eating wild caught seafood is about as healthy as you can go. With my renewed commitment to keto, salmon is an ideal protein source for me. I bake or broil the lightly seasoned salmon filets skin side down in olive or coconut oil. The scallops are a real treat. When you sear them, be sure to cook them in the liquid that comes in the bag and be sure not to overcook them.

Buy Direct from the Fisherman

Captain Tony has been fishing in Alaska since 1990. Wild Alaska is famous for their wild caught Sockeye and King Salmon! All of their other fish, including Ahi Tuna, Shrimp, Scallops, Cod, etc., are responsibly sourced, caught the right way and closely inspected by Capt. Tony to meet their high standards of quality and freshness. They catch and process all 5 species of wild pacific salmon, and source our other seafood products from high quality sustainable fisheries.

The stuff tastes great and is good for you. Internet orders to the continental United States are shipped from their fulfillment center in the Midwest allowing their seafood products to reach US customers in perfect condition. The flavor and texture of their salmon and other produtts remain fresher than fresh is because the stuff is frozen the same day it is caught. Tip: arrange to have your order shipped on a Monday so that in case of any delays it will arrive frozen that same week.

Note

Nutritionally, if you are eating farm-raised salmon, you might as well be eating pop tarts. Wild Sockeye Salmon has the highest amount of Omega 3 of any fish with approximately 2.7 grams per 100-gram portion. Therefore, just one serving of Alaska salmon per week can help to lower cholesterol and the risk of heart disease. Scallops are widely considered one of the healthiest seafoods. Made up of 80% protein and sporting a low fat content, they can help you feel fuller longer and are rich in vitamins and minerals. They are also a great source of antioxidants.
