TX Coast Help Needed. And a Mint Canon 1DX III for Sale

What’s Up?

Sebastian was not very good on Saturday morning. There were lots of Ospreys fishing on the wrong side of the jetty and the wrong side of the light and flying away from us into the wind. On Sunday morning we photographed the largest Green Lynx Spider I have ever seen a few blocks from my home.

I forgot to mention that on Friday past, Anita and I mounted the Thule Cargo Carrier on top of my X5. It was easier than I thought it would be. Our trip is becoming more and more of a reality. We head to DeSoto on Wednesday for the first-ever COVID-Conscious Small Group IPT with three participants.

We get back to ILE a week from today and hope to set sail for San Diego (via the slow southern route) on the early morning of Thursday 22 OCT.

TX Coast Help Needed

If you live along the Texas Coast or visit regularly to photograph birds, I would love to hear from you via e-mail.

I am hoping to learn about some of the best spots between Galveston and Corpus Christi. We will be there for about a week probably arriving on 24 or 25 OCT. We are interested in photographing both land and water birds, while realizing that the latter are much easier and more dependable.

If you can share some knowledge on any of the items below, we would most appreciative. And perhaps we could get together for a photo session as a thank you.

1- Any good locations in Galveston Bay or on Galveston Island.
2- Bolivar Flats — best times and tides.
3- Is Aransas NWR good in late October? I was there once in the spring and never took one image …
4- Any productive locations in and around Rockport.
5- Any good locations in and around Corpus Christi or Corpus Christi Bay or Mustang Island.
6- Can Padre Island be good for migrant landlords in fall? If yes, where?

If you know of any dependable spots as above, we would love to hear from you. E-mail is best.

thanks with love, artie and Anita

Shutter Bugs Port Aransas is a great Facebook group. Good photographers and they love their area. I’m sure they would give you advice for best areas. Of course the birds come and go….

    Hey Artie,
Stay mindful of the new height on your vehicle. Entering garages etc offer new challenges. Love your articles and insights. Stay safe.

Thanks, Hank. Yesterday pulled under a tree to get the car in the shade and when I got out I noted that we missed a pretty good branch by about 4 inches.

    Hi Artie,

Although I have never been there, I have it on reasonably good authority that South Padre (and Brownsville, and other areas in the general region) do in fact have sizeable populations of migrant LANDLORDS in the fall. Mostly they come down from Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and even a few strays from Canada.
    Hope this helps.
    Best Regards,
    John Haig

    Art-
I think the context of “PM me” means to send a private message.

Artie, tried to send a lot of locations to you but not sure the email went through. We are recovering from Hurricane Delta and internet and power have been going on and off the last couple of days. You can pm me at jsaxon@gt.rr.com for some recommendations. If you are in the area I can show you these places.

Thanks, James. That sounds great. I did not get your e-mail. Where do you live? I am confused by the “pm me.”

Good luck recovering from the storm.

      much love, a
