I am sorry to here that you are developing another trigger finger. Hopefully you can get by with only a steroid injection in the finger and avoid another surgery. Just thinking about all the problems you had last year makes my finger trigger. 🙂 Ivan
Thanks Ivan. I did have two shots on the first one. The first shot helped a lot but then I relapsed. The second not so much…. I am thinking about just getting it cut right off the bat but I really cannot do even that until next June or so…. Right now it is barely in the nuisance stage. artie
I upgraded from 10D to 30D, 50D, 7D, and now the 1DIV. The focus system on 1DIV is top notch and easily beats these other bodies I once had. I haven’t encountered any problem with the 1DIV focus system. I am with Artie that his images do the talking.
Thanks Nick. I am always floored when folks ask me if my Mark IV bodies really do suck. Sometimes I feel like replying, “Yes they do that’s why I only own two of them and use them every day.” artie
Art, At B&H, there are comments from users that claim they experienced focus problems w/ the 1D MkIV. Any comment on that front you may have would be welcome. Thanks. Antonio
I own two MIVs and borrow a third from Canon for big trips. I let my images do the talking…. artie
Artie, If you do the lens calibration on a 500mm at around 43 feet and then you put the 1.4X, do you still treat the lens as a 500 and calibrate at 43 feet, or do you treat it as a 700mm and calibrate it at around 63 feet. Maybe I an just over thinking this. Thanks for all the work you do, and the help you give people..

Artie, I am a novice wildlife photographer and would like to get a new Canon body. I currently have a 50D and want to move up to something better. I am not interested in videos so what would you say is the best body that Canon currently has available? Is it the EOS-1D Mark IV?
Yes sir. That’s why I use only Mark IV bodies :). I have always loved the feel of a pro body and AF on the MIV is the best on any Canon pro body. And, I love the image quality. On an unrelated note I am slowly developing a another tirgger finger–right hand middle finger as Dr. Poupolo indicted might happen…. later and love, artie

I didn’t realize they had announced a 200-400! That sounds like a better option with the other gear I have. Thanks for that info.

Here are the comments that ran below the Parasitic Jaeger image in a Bulletin here:
This image of a wheeling Parasitic Jaeger was created at Lonyearbyen, Spitzbergen, Norway with the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM zoom lens (hand held at 140 mm) and the EOS-1D Mark IV. ISO 400. Evaluative metering at zero: 1/2500 sec. at f/6.3 set manually.
This was my first time using this lens for flight; I was quite impressed with the sharpness. Inexplicably, they placed the focusing ring on this twist zoom lens closer to the camera and the zoom ring farther out on the lens…. Folks coming from the one of the 70-200 lenses will be driven nuts for a while until they get used to the new configuration. (I kept trying to zoom in or out by turning the focusing ring….) The 70-300mm IS USM zoom lens would make a great starter lens for folks living near tame birds. (Note: it does not accept a 1.4X teleconverter.)

Not a word. With the relatively new 70-300 (I think) I would be surprised by a 100-400II. Make that amazed considering that they have announced a 200-400… artie
